A representative for the South African star revealed to NBC News that actress Charlbi Dean, who played Syonide on the previous CW series Black Lightning, passed unexpectedly on August 29 due to "an unexpected untimely illness."1

In addition to Black Lightning, Dean was a successful model and made an appearance on the CBS series Elementary. And Dean's movie Triangle of Sadness, in which Woody Harrelson also stars, is scheduled to hit theatres in October.

After walking the red carpet, Dean posted on Instagram, "It took a full team to make this day happen, three years to get this project here, family and friends for supporting me, and many more years of dreaming.

Dean later returned to Instagram to thank the crew for their work after the movie received top awards.
